More than 400 entrepreneurs in wearable tech submitted their innovative solutions, but only a few of them made it to the finals. LifeSense Group – located in High Tech Plaza on High tech Campus Eindhoven – is one of them, with their product Carin. The jury of the WT Innovation World Cup for Wearable Technologies Heroes selected five finalists in six categories: Sports & Fitness, Healthcare & Wellness, Gaming & Lifestyle, Safety & Security, Smart Clothing, and Smart Jewelry. Carin is part of the Healthcare competition.
Carin is developed with the purpose of helping everyday women manage bladder control issues all too common after having children. The line of hi-tech, absorbent, underwear allows women to monitor urine loss throughout the day. Fitted with a sensor and accompanied by an app and exercise plan, Carin is meant to empower women to take control of their bodies and health.
LifeSense Group CEO Valer Pop is “super happy” with the nomination. “We look forward to picking up the award and prove that High Tech Campus is where life-changing wearables are born.” Eline van Uden, Product Marketing manager and responsible for Carin, adds: “If we look at innovations with a huge impact on women’s lives we find the disposable pad in 1880’s, the bra in the 1920’s and the pill in 1960’s. Half a century later, Carin is an innovation in women’s health, but will eventually be what Madonna is for music: taboo-breaking and empowering lives of women all over the world.”
The finalists will present their solutions at the Innovation Wildfire sessions during the Wearable Technologies Conference in Munich on February 7. Andrea Onetti, Group Vice President at STMicroelectronics, one of the partners of the competition, said: “While continuing to push the boundaries on fun and cool stuff, the incredible Innovation on display in this year’s WT Innovation World Cup demonstrates how Wearable Technology makers and entrepreneurs are also moving up the ladder to life-sustaining wearables suited to medically-approved treatment and wellness. We’re looking forward to meeting the winners.”
