A remarkable meters long lightning bolt, a Tesla coil and scientific research packaged in light – it can all be seen during the GLOW Science route at the university campus in Eindhoven. This year GLOW takes place from November 12 to 19 and there are two routes. The scientific light art route runs through the campus of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and goes by the name: GLOW Science.
This year ‘the terrain of science’ will be connected with the light art projects in the city center. GLOW Science is thus the follow-up to the experimental ‘GLOW Next’ that could be seen in previous years at Strijp-S. The route of around three kilometers through the university grounds presents some 12 projects by TU/e students and researchers.
The projects reflect the technological innovation and scientific research. An example is the Influx project in the Markthal in which the Intelligent Lighting Institute investigates the influence of light on the behaviour of people. The light art is being created on the basis of scientific research into the environments in which people live and work. Another impressive design is the ‘Exploding Wire’, or meters long lightning bolt.
GLOW Science project leader, Gerrit Kroesen of TU/e, is pleased that GLOW has come to the university campus: “It’s a wonderful way to enlighten scientific research and show the wider public the possibilities of technology.”
Access to GLOW Science
GLOW runs from 6.30 pm till midnight each day from 12 to 19 November and access is free of charge. The projects can be admired along a walking route. GLOW City (4.2 km) is the route through the center of Eindhoven and GLOW Science (3,2 km) is the scientific route through the TU/e campus. The route begins and ends at the Eindhoven Brandstore (VVV, tourist information office) at the Stationsplein in front of the Central Railway Station.
