TU Eindhoven has risen strongly up the ladder of the Times Higher Education World University Ranking (THE WUR) as shown by the results for 2017-2018 that are published today.
TU/e has risen 36 places in the general ranking from 177th in 2016-2017 to 141st in 2017-2018, with education, research, academic publications, collaboration with industry and internationalization assessed in terms of a number of indicators: teaching, research, citations and industry income.
For this last indicator (‘industry income’) TU/e leads the world. In other words, the university has the highest score for the collaboration with industry and in the field of academic and scientific research. This is aligned with the university’s ambitions, expressed, for instance, by TU/e’s own ‘Impuls’ program established in 2013 to encourage research collaboration with industry.
For the very first time more than 1,000 institutions from 77 different countries are represented in this year’s ranking. Last year this figure was 980. Chinese and South Korean institutions in particular have consolidated their positions in the THE ranking that continues to be led by the University of Oxford.
"Collaboration produces good things.”
The THE ranking was established in 2004 and is one of the most referenced international rankings for students and governments.
Holding on to top spot affirms the uniqueness of the Brainport Region for Jan Mengelers, President of TU/e. “Being in the number one position in this list confirms the quality of this university. We are strong in scientific research and that is both valued and encouraged by industry in this region. Collaboration produces good things.”
