De lijst met aansprekende buitenlandse media die de loftrompet over Eindhoven steken, lijkt geen einde te kennen. Vandaag is het TechCrunch dat de stad omschrijft als “certainly the most prolific, highly concentrated engine of deep-tech entrepreneurship in the country“.

TechCrunch roemt het Eindhovense tech-ondernemerschap. What’s meaningful, in both the long and short term, is that Eindhoven is creating a lasting culture of entrepreneurship.

TechCrunch gaat in op het verleden van de stad, met de wortels van Philips en over de grote techbedrijven die daardoor uit het buitenland op Eindhoven zijn afgekomen, “but Philips still holds the most meaningful presence — so much so that some of its numerous spin-offs have become major international players in their own right”. Het tech-platform noemt FEI, NXP en ASML als voorbeelden.

Bert-Jan Woertman, directeur marketing van de High tech Campus, noemt de 6,3 miljoen dollar die ronde 2 van Startupbootcamp HighTechXL wist te genereren “pretty amazing for Europe”. Hij neemt de TechCrunchers mee in zijn overtuiging: “This city lives tech. We live, breathe, and eat hardware for breakfast.”

Whether it is indeed “the smartest square kilometer on the planet,” as its reputation boasts, it is certainly the most prolific, highly concentrated engine of deep-tech entrepreneurship in the country.

Nederland

De aandacht voor Eindhoven is onderdeel van een breder artikel over het succes van startups in Nederland. TechCrunch’ conclusie: de basis hier is bijna perfect, met eigenlijk maar twee obstakels: het blijkt lastig om investeerders te trekken en het risico dat talent het land ontvlucht is relatief groot.


Aanstaande donderdag presenteert e52 de top-10 startups-to-watch uit de regio Eindhoven.
